Texas Irrigation System Winterization

Preparing for a Winter Storm

When extreme cold weather reaches Houston, irrigation systems can be at risk. Houston homeowners and property managers can reduce costly repairs and compliance concerns by preparing the Pressure Vacuum Breaker, also known as the PVB backflow prevention assembly, as part of a complete irrigation freeze protection plan.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS

Start by locating the isolation valve near your PVB or water meter and shutting off the irrigation water supply. Once isolated, relieve system pressure by opening the test cocks and setting the handles to a partially open position. These steps allow trapped water to vent and help prevent freeze-related expansion and damage.
